What is an Australian Government Board?

There are many Australian Government boards, bodies and committees covering a wide range of responsibilities, including advisory boards, Government Business Enterprises, and review and enquiry boards.

The roles of Australian Government boards or entities can vary considerably from:

  • Governing - Ensure corporate compliance and management accountability; endorse strategic plans
  • Regulatory - coordinate policies, plans or projects within and across portfolios
  • Registration, appeal and coordination - determine standards, monitor and regulate practice, grant licences, investigate complaints and make judgments
  • Advisory - advise and make recommendations on policies, plans and practices.
